Visibility without the Ick

If I had a dollar for every person who says to me, ‘but I just feel a bit ick posting about myself’ I’d be a very rich woman.

Do you hate being visible but want it at the same time.  Does posting feels awkward.

Do you think that talking about your work feels self-congratulatory.

Or that building a profile feels suspiciously like showing off.

If you’d like visibility but without the ick then this is for you.  I see you, I know you, and I’m here to tell you it’s time to get over ourselves.

Lack of visibility is, in my opinion, a potentially hazardous career blocker.

Most smart, accomplished people don’t lack skill, experience or impact.

But…

If people can’t see your value, they can’t choose your value.

Visibility is not ego.

It’s taking what you already do and making it legible to the world.

And no, you do not need to become louder, shinier, or more “personal brand” than feels human.

You just need to stop posting about yourself
and start sharing from your perspective.

Try this instead:

  • What are you seeing that others are missing?

  • What have you learned the hard way?

  • What is changing in your field right now?

  • What do you quietly know that would help someone else?

That’s not self-promotion.

That’s sharing your expertise and experience in a way that is useful to others plus it demonstrates what you offer.

The people you respect didn’t wake up confident and visible.
They became visible, and confidence followed.

Visibility without the ick is simply this:

Clarity over performance.
Contribution over self-promotion.
Signal over noise.

Be thoughtful.
Be useful.
Be seen.

Still entirely yourself.

Be fearlessly YOU in however you do it, but do it.
