Mid-Year Career Audit: 5 Questions To Ask Yourself

Bonjour July!

Yes, we're halfway through 2025, and I bet you're either thinking

  • Where did the time go?

  • Or, Thank goodness we're halfway done!

  • Or, Why is it so hot in the UK?

Does the whole idea of a mid-year check-in make you roll your eyes?

Well, most people either skip them entirely or beat themselves up for not being "further along.”

But whoa there Nelly!

Let’s get intentional, no matter what year you’ve had so far and ask these questions - you never know, they could completely transform your second half of the year...

The Career Audit Questions That Actually Matter:

1.  What energised you most in the first half of this year?

Not what you think should energise you - what actually did.

For me, it was having bigger gaps between work so that I could actually have thinking time to generate more ideas.

Instead of worrying about my work pipeline and thinking, 'I need more work', I re-framed it as ‘I’m in biz dev mode and what is possible?’  I am in a curious and open mood!

2.  Which conversations made you feel most confident?

These are clues to your natural strengths.

For me, it’s conversations with coaching clients where I see the confidence grow in front of me, the shoulders relax, and the excitement come back into their voices.

The conversations where I feel that I have helped build confidence make me feel most confident!

3.  What pattern keeps showing up that you're ignoring?

This is an easy one for me - it’s my ‘mañana’ attitude to exercise classes.

It’s either too hot (I’m tempted to skip body tone tonight) or I’m too tired, busy etc etc.  But no, I am just gonna book it all in.

I find that if it’s in the diary, it doesn’t come out.

4. If you had to choose just ONE thing to focus on for the rest of 2025, what would move the needle most?

Not three things, not five - ONE.

Keep it super-simple.

Make it a mantra if it’s a mindset thing.

Mine might be ‘healthy body, healthy mind’.

Not being healthy takes up so much space in my mind, and the distractions are multiple, so focusing on just that one thing SHOULD make it simpler.

5. What would you do if you knew you couldn't fail?

And more importantly - what's really stopping you from trying?

This one is so important.

I meet so many people who have such strong desires to do things, achieve great things, but there are these invisible self-imposed barriers in the way.

Namely, fear of failure.  To that I say...

  • If not you, then who?

  • If not no,w then when?

  • And, why you? Why not?!

Here's what I've learned from working with hundreds of people on their careers: The people who ask honest questions get honest results. The people who ask gentle questions get gentle results.

Now then, if you were ever partial to a school report card, I created one just for this mid-career check-in:  The Fast Track to Fearless End of Term Report.

It will prompt you to think about all areas of your life and check in with how you are doing.

So, what's your honest answer to question #5?

Hit reply and let me know - they inspire me.

Take care

Tracy
