When the hurly-burly’s done - take a dip in Lake You

I don't know about you but when I think about 2023 so far I’d say it’s been like being in a tumble drier.

It makes me think of the three witches in Macbeth saying;

When shall we three meet again? And the answer being,

When the hurly burly’s done

When the battle’s lost and won

2023 has felt like hurly burly, noisy disorder and commotion, just lots and lots of turmoil and tumult. And we are only half-way through.

So now we’ve arrived at the end of July, traditionally the time that people take off, school’s out, the holiday is finally here, I want to encourage you to really hit the pause button, unplug and take a dip in Lake You!

We need time to rest, recharge, recuperate and reset to have the energy to face the rest of the year.

So here’s my checklist of what I’m planning on doing - and I would love to hear your list:

  • Walk barefoot as much as possible - I recently went on a forest-bathing workshop and the teacher said that having our feet barefoot on the earth balances out the ions in our bodies. Let’s face it, barefoot in the sand always feels good.

  • Unplug - I know this is a tall task but I am absolutely going to leave my phone at home, in the hotel, wherever for the day and only check in on it once in the morning and once at the end of the day for any kind of emergency.

  • Read a massive novel from start to finish - For me, this is Tomb of Sand by Geetanjali Shree, the International Booker Prize winner from last year that I still haven’t read.

  • Look at the horizon - sea, landscape and look up - trees, sky, clouds. Anything but down at my phone!

  • Stretch - I’m going to take stretching seriously and allow time to do it every day and just enjoy it. I don’t mean yoga poses, just random freeform stretching!

  • Go with the flow - Normally, I am such a planner and organiser, but I’m going to try to take a backseat and go with the flow and see what happens. Wish me luck with that one!

  • Finally, I’m going to ask questions, open-ended questions in conversation. Questions to which I don’t know the answers and see what happens and what I discover. When you ask open-ended questions, it can take you to places you never dreamed possible.

Okay, that’s my list - what’s yours?

What does taking a dip in Lake You look like? And what will you do to extract yourself from the hurly-burly?

See you next time
